November news

It's quiet time here in PEI, with a few exceptions...

I've been at home writing, trying to focus in on one project in particular that I hope to tell you about someday. But it feels too soon, too vulnerable, at the moment.

On a personal front, I lost a very dear friend and I've been sitting in the grief of that. Our tight knit music community lost another member, one of my first mentors and cheerleaders, David Baxter. He believed in me at a time when I didn't think any one would. And sitting by his hospital bed in Toronto last week, I talked to so many of his friends and colleagues who said the same thing about him.
He was the kind of person who could see the diamond in the rough.
Now that he's gone, I suddenly have so many questions for him.
His whole life was music, right til the very end. And I know he will be cheering us on from afar.
If you're curious about his music, you can hear his own songs here.
Or to hear his production style, you can listen to my album Silhouette, or the many other albums he produced by artists like Justin Rutledge, Lori Yates, Jadea Kelly, Jack Marks, Treasa Levasseur, Corin Raymond... the list goes on and on.

I will be playing three events over the next week or so and I'd love to share them with you!

November 14: The Christmas Daddies taping, which will later air in December as a telethon to raise money for kids in need.
They've been raising funds for kids in Atlantic Canada for 60 years! And they always have an incredible cast of musicians and characters to help with that.
The PEI taping is in Charlottetown at The Guild and admission is by donation.
The Telethon airs December 2, from 11am - 6pm on CTV.
For a full list of details head over to the Christmas Daddies website.

November 15: TRANSMISSIONS -
Join us for what will be an unforgettable fundraising event for PEI’s transgender community. Featuring a night of special performances from some of PEI’s top songwriters and musicians, Alicia Toner, Brandon Howard Roy, Catherine MacLellan, Craig Fair, Dylan Menzie, Inn Echo, Irish Mythen, Logan Richard, Meaghan Blanchard, Noah Malcolm, and The Burning Hell.

All proceeds raised will be donated back to trans-led organizations supporting PEI’s Trans and Gender Diverse community. Tickets are $35 advance and $50 at the door.

The first half of the show will feature a songwriter’s circle with an intermission around 9PM followed by full band performances from Inn Echo, The Burning Hell, and Craig Fair with special guests who will close out the night.

November 19: WOMEN IN SONG - SONGWRITERS CIRCLE  - This will be a night of incredible songwriting, harmonies, musicianship, storytelling, and conversations about their unique journeys.

Banshee Co's inaugural event, Catherine MacLellan Erin Costelo and Madison Violet will join together on stage for one night only. The motivation is to empower women in music and to create equality within all aspects of the Canadian music industry.

After that it gets a little Christmas-y around here.
I have a few events, including the Christmas Tree Lighting in Charlottetown. Although we have had our first few snowfalls in PEI, it seems a little TOO EARLY to talk holiday events.
But here we go:
December 10: WOLFVILLE NS: Christmas With Friends hosted by Rachel MacLean featuring Catherine MacLellan and Sons of Maxwell at University Hall.
December 16: SOURIS PEI: Christmas with Catherine MacLellan and Nick Gauthier
December 22: HUNTER RIVER PEI: Live with Logan Richard @ Harmony House

That's it for now...
For a full list of events, head to my website.
And take good care of you and those you love. These are hard times, and hopefully music can make it a little better in moments.
xoxo
Catherine
